Meet Sarah

Sarah comes to BikeTours.com from Eugene, Oregon. After the multitude of road trips through blizzards and plane rides to far-off destinations, she was hooked. She has traveled to more than twenty different countries and lived abroad in Italy, Tanzania and Thailand for an accumulative 2 years.

When not traveling Sarah loves being active. While she was originally a collegiate swimmer and water polo player, she quickly found her love of cycling and participated in a few triathlons. More recently she’s been getting off road and enlisting the help of locals to find the best mountain biking trails.

Last summer she and her partner designed and cycled a self-contained, self-guided National Park Tour of over 3,500 miles and way too many mountains. You can see more of her tour at tenacioustires.wordpress.com. She’s already planning her next tour, hopefully with fat bikes and off road as much as possible.
Likes

Places where I do not know the language nor food. Nature, nature, and more nature. Unique, quiet towns relatively untouched by the mass of tourists.
Dislikes

Extreme grades, overly touristic areas.
Adores

Friendly locals, active vacations with friends, back woods without cell service and delicious craft beer.

Adventure (WILD!)
Bucket list

1. The Yukon: Canada’s Wild North
Escape up north and have a week of remote living with luxuries. Fantastic remote mountain biking combined with delicious food and local craft beer, what’s not to love? They even include a day where you can paddle the Yukon River, another goal of mine.

2. Cycling the Garden Route to Cape Town

gardenroute3This tour encompasses so many aspects of South Africa. You cycle along the coast, through evergreen forests, over expansive mountains and see wild animals along the way.  This tour looks like an active challenge, but the sights along the way would make every mile worth it. The hot springs on day 6 are a nice motivational factor as well.

3. Tibet: Road to Everest, on a Journey of a Lifetime
I’ve been to Tibet once before, and would love to revisit on my bike. Getting to see this stunning, humble culture on the ground level would be incredible. I’d love to visit the open-air markets, see the Dalai Lama’s former palace, and ultimately arrive at the Everest Base Camp.

4. Mongolia Off-Road
Beautiful open land, most sparsely populated country in the world, and very few roads. An intact culture relatively untouched by globalization and many wonderful, wild yaks, sheep, horses and goats. The chance to see this wild land and meet the nomadic tribes on ground level, cycling over the same land they travel and have traveled for years is incredible to me.

5. Tour of Mont Blanc: “High Mountain” Biking in the Alps
While offering an average of 4000 feet elevation gain daily, there are just as many descents, offering an incredible mountain bike ride in the Alps. The tough climbs look like a challenge, worth it for the chance to be among 7 valleys, 71 glaciers, and 400 summits.
